Below are websites that we recommend as additional resources. The list is not comprehensive. Some of the site have their own resources/links sections, and you can visit sections of 1in6.org with more specific resources, including Finding Help and Resources for Therapists.

National and International

MaleSurvivor: National Organization against Male Sexual Victimization – Their mission: "We are committed to preventing, healing, and eliminating all forms of sexual victimization of boys and men through treatment, research, education, advocacy, and activism." Their site has many helpful resources.

The Next Step Counseling and Training, and Small Wonder Books – The website of Mike Lew, M.Ed. and Thom Harrigan, LICSW, and includes information about their center in Newton, Massachusetts, workshops they offer around the world, and Lew's new book, Leaping upon the mountains: Men proclaiming victory over child sexual abuse. Lew is also the author of Victims No Longer considered by many to be the best book ever written about and for males who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood. Finally, their site has a Helpful Resources section with many resources not included here.

Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) – RAINN has a 24-hour National Sexual Assault Hotline (800 656-4673) and a National Sexual Assault Online Hotline (chat) staffed with trained volunteers and paid staff members who also have knowledge of sexual abuse issues and services (though sometimes they are not adequately prepared to refer male callers). All calls are confidential, and callers may remain anonymous if they wish.

Safer Society Foundation – The Safer Society Foundation, Inc. (SSF) is a nonprofit agency and national research, advocacy, and referral center for the prevention and treatment of sexual abuse. The SSF provides training and consultation to individuals, agencies, states and organizations. Their Web site has a list of Safer Society Press books and videos. Sidran Institute – This is a national non-profit organization that offers services to helps people understand, recover from, and treat traumatic stress (including PTSD), dissociative disorders, and co-occurring issues, such as addictions, self injury, and suicidality. There are many excellent resources here, including Resources for Survivors and Loved Ones.

SNAP - Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests – "SNAP is a national self-help organization of men and women who were sexually abused by Catholic priests (brothers, nuns, deacons, teachers, etc). Members find healing and empowerment by joining with other survivors."

Stop It Now! – "Stop It Now! believes that all adults must accept the responsibility to recognize, acknowledge and confront the behaviors that lead to the sexual abuse of children. We offer adults tools they can use to prevent sexual abuse - before there’s a victim to heal or an offender to punish. In collaboration with our network of community-based Stop It Now! programs, we reach out to adults who are concerned about their own or others’ sexualized behavior toward children." Stop It Now! also provides a tollfree, confidential hotline.

Richard Gartner, Ph.D. - Dr. Gartner has written books and articles on the sexual abuse of males and their treatment in therapy, and is past president of MaleSurvivor. His web site has many resources, including writings and testimony by him on a variety of issues relevant to males with histories of unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood.

Stories of Silence: Recovering from Boyhood Sexual Abuse - Web site of Ethan Delavan's powerful documentary film.

Incest, Sexual and Ritual Abuse, Emotional Abuse: Articles for Survivors and Their Friends - Several short, clear and informative articles by Kali Munro, a therapist with experience treating men with histories of unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood.

FaithTrust Institute – "FaithTrust Institute is an international, multifaith organization working to end sexual and domestic violence." They provide communities and advocates with tools and knowledge to address the religious and cultural issues related to abuse. They work with many communities, including Asian and Pacific Islander, Buddhist, Jewish, Latino/a, Muslim, Black, Anglo, Indigenous, Protestant and Roman Catholic. Their site has a number of resources on the issue of Sexual Abuse by Clergy.

Healing Self-Injury – Ruta Mazelis, former editor of The Cutting Edge newsletter, is now editing this web site with resources for people struggling with self-injury and those who care about them.

Regional and Local

Peace Over Violence is a Los Angeles and West San Gabriel Valley social service agency offering one-on-one interventions for sexual assault, domestic abuse, child abuse, and stalking; youth violence and child abuse prevention programs; and a range of specialized services reaching underserved groups like Latinas, Deaf, Disabled and Elder, LGBTQ, and Youth. Their Emergency Services provide emotional support, information, compassion, accompaniment, referral and advocacy services – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) is a nonprofit agency whose mission includes advocating for all victims and survivors of sexual assault and child sexual abuse, including several services and programs just for men, and providing ongoing support and healing to all survivors of sexual assault.

The Men’s Project in Ottowa, Ontario is a non-profit men's counseling agency that has been providing services to men and their families since 1997. They provide individual and couple counseling, as well as a specialized healing program for men who have experienced sexual or physical abuse as children and seek help with anger management, fathering and other issues. Their services are specifically designed for men and professionally facilitated by accredited therapists.

British Columbia Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse is a non-profit society that provides support, individual and group therapy for males who have been sexually abused at some time in their lives, and support to their significant relatives and others. They also work to ensure clear, consistent communication in dealing with other involved agencies or professionals in order to guarantee comprehensive case management; and consult with community and government groups in the areas of prevention, treatment, therapy, and related matters.

The Twin Cities Men's Center - This organization in the Minneapolis-St Paul area offers a variety of services including groups, workshops, retreats, presentations and conferences. A variety of support groups meet weekly, including one for men abused sexually and otherwise as children or adults. Another group discusses concerns about sexual behavior and boundaries, including excessive, compulsive or obsessive sexual activities or pornography use, as well as inappropriate fantasies/thoughts/urges.
